We, at the library want to shout from the rafters about creators that we like, so we put the word out to some of our favourites to find out a little bit more about them..

With 11 simple questions.. for the FM Newby

1.. Whats your creator name and what made you choose it?

When I first got into blogging, I called myself the FM Newby because I was new to blogging. And that’s it!!

2.What’s your real name?

Martyn

3. What team do you support?

Crystal Palace

4. Take us through your FM journey. Where does it start and when did you realise that you couldn’t stop?

The first game I played was Championship Manager 3. Then moved more into FIFA and PES until 2005 when Football Manager was accidentally bought for me. I realised that it was becoming a problem was on FM11 when I managed to get to the year 2062!! Then realised this might be a slight addiction…

5. So what made you jump from “player” to “creator”?

A few issues in my personal life around December 2015 caused me to try my hand at blogging. And what did I think I would be good at blogging? Football Manager of course!

6. What style of football manager player are you? Within the Library we have a few players who like to let the Assistant Manager of everything and blitz a save till the late 2060s. On the other hand, some managers will consider a save done after 5 or 6 seasons. Where do you fit on the scale?

I think I’m somewhere in between. I like to let my Assistant Manager take control of things like general training, offering unwanted players out and opposition instructions. If you listen to people who know me, then I play slowly (editor: he does, painfully so..) But I prefer to do all my own scouting and sorting out of staff. However I do like to go as far into a save as I can.

7. Favourite version/save? Any particular bittersweet/comic/down right depressing memories?

My favourite version was FM15. I had a great homegrown Man Utd save on that. That save also brought my most bittersweet moment on FM. Away to my team Crystal Palace on the last day of the season. I needed to at least draw to complete an unbeaten season. Palace needed a win to stay up. Man Utd won with an own goal in the last minute. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry…

8. Which bloggers do you always make sure that you read?

I’ve got far too many to mention!!! Outside of my group, I’m always reading anything that MikaelinhoFM or Cookie FM produce. It’s always top quality. Then you have the FM Blogger who always produces good content. There’s a real plethora of good bloggers out there at the moment.

9. Who within the community seriously impressed you?

I’m always amazed in the sort of detail that MikaelinhoFM goes into in his blogs. The ratings he gives each player, the way he details his tactic changes and how he analyses said tactics. I really don’t have the patience for that.

10. What puts you off reading other creators blogs?

Usually it’s any blogs telling which teams I should manage. I never usually read them. If I’m going to play FM, I’ll find a team to play and the narrative around it.

11. Ok, final question.. I have 5 minutes and I have a list of blogs in front of me – In 100 words, why should I click on your blog…

I’ll do it in 36 words. If you don’t want to read my blog, then don’t bother. If you want to read something that’s probably not the best content, poorly spelt and usually with poor grammar, then I’m the person for you!!

And there we have it, 11 questions with the FM Newby and nobody mentioned save scumming…
