A real honor today folks, one of my personal favourite bloggers is being introduced. Say hello to Inverted Wing Backs

Creator Name & what made you choose it:

InvertedWingbacks – it was the first new player role that came to mind when I was setting up the blog!

Real Name:

Katy

Football Team:

Liverpool

Talk me through your FM journey – where does it start? When was the moment that you first clicked on that little icon – and when did you realise that you couldn’t stop!:

I’ve been playing football management sims since about 2001/2, when dad brought home FA Premier League manager and I booted up a Liverpool save – John Arne Riise got a career-ending knee injury and I suppose the bug really set in as I tried to recover that season and rebuild the club without him.

Ok, you’ve been playing the game, what made you jump from “player” to “creator” and how have you found the journey?:

Honestly, I started writing stories on FMScout’s forums in about 2014/15, both as a way of sharing my careers with others but also to keep track for myself of how a save was going, I liked weaving a bit of story around the events in game, and the blog kind of grew out of that.

What’s your style of play? Within the library we have a couple of guys who plough through seasons letting the Assistant Manager’s do the vast majority of stuff, mainly getting into the late 2060’s trying to complete bizarre and random challenges, but we also have guys who are very much into the finite detail and will manage every aspect and would consider a save done after 5 or 6 seasons. Where do you fit within the scale? There is of course, no incorrect answer..:

I think I get into a decent bit of depth – I avoid the staff signings for a couple seasons while I sort out the playing squad, and leave that to the Assistant, but generally I think I’d describe it as playing as a Head Coach – training, picking the squad, etc. I’m making an effort this year to get into more of the detail and digging into the feature set in more detail.

Favourite version/save? Any particular bittersweet/comic/down right depressing memories?

I’d say 2008 – I had a Liverpool side that had a front 2 of Aguero and Suarez, Gerrard in midfield, and a crazy newgen CB who was a total brick wall – won back to back to back Champions Leagues, but could never crack an invincible season in the league!

Which bloggers do you always make sure that you read?

There’s a lot! It’s hard to narrow it down without feeling like i’ve missed someone out! I think my top 3 are Samo, FM Grasshopper and FMEadster, those three write some quality stuff and their saves are usually a bit ‘out of the box’ in terms of style and content – Eadster this year especially has put together a really interesting concept.

Who within the community, seriously impresses you – produces the type of content that you just think “Wow, I couldn’t even contemplate producing stuff to at that level – for me it’s Laura/Chilled Moose and the face packs that she produces – some serious design talent there. This can be across any format of creation:

Graphically i’d say Laura, her face packs are unbelievable; in terms of visual content, JimG and Mozza are two creators I really enjoy, while the three bloggers i’ve mentioned above have consistently excellent content…Like I say its really hard to narrow it down.

What puts you off reading other creators blogs – what makes you click that “X” button in the top right of the page. For me it’s using the correct grammar for team names – I saw a blog about 18 months ago where the blogger named his opponent as oxford united and not Oxford United – I’m still angry about this…

I think for me it’s got to come across that the creator is really engaged with what they’re writing about; if I don’t get that vibe then I find it difficult to get invested.

Ok, final question.. I have 5 minutes and I have a list of blogs in front of me – In 100 words, why should I click on your blog… God, that’s hard… I guess if you want to read reasonably good content with a relatively short read time and some good footballing cliches, then click on through?

A huge thanks for Inverted Wing Backs for sending back these answers – especially as they were sent within an hour of FM20 being released – now that is getting your priorities in order!
