One of the craziest challenges in Football Manager is the Liechtenstein Challenge, which as you’ve probably established by now is the challenge that I’m going to be taking on for FM24.

Liechtenstein is such a small country that it doesn’t even have its own league, instead its 7 clubs all play within the Swiss football league system as ‘guests’. This ‘guest’ status means that even if a Liechtenstein side were to win the Swiss Super League, they wouldn’t qualify for the Champions League. So how do they qualify for Europe?

Well there is one Liechtenstein only competition and that’s the Liechtenstein Football Cup, the winner of which qualifies for the UEFA Europa Conference League First Qualifying Round.

So what’s the challenge then?

Win the Champions League of course. I’ve just got to win the Europa Conference League and Europa League back to back in order to get into it, then make sure I win the Champions League at the first attempt otherwise the cycle starts again and its back to being in the Europa Conference League….providing I win the Liechtenstein Football Cup of course.

What could go wrong?

The team that I’ll be managing is FC Vaduz, they are in the second tier of Swiss football and the only Liechtenstein team that are playable on the vanilla database. They have won the Liechtenstein Cup a record 49 times and the only time this millennium they didn’t win it was back in 2012.

I’ll also be looking to take charge of the national side at some point in this save, with the aim of taking them to a major championship for the first time in their history.

Thanks to FM Burt at the FM Library for hosting me and for CarrileroFM for the thumbnail, the blog will take a season review format and I’ll be starting the save upon the full release on November 6th.

Cheers for reading,

The Last Throw.
