@SteinkelssonFM is part of the incredible @ViewFromTheTouchline team and his current Ajax save is arguably one of the most detailed saves around at the moment.
If you somehow haven’t read it yet, you must change that!
Creator name & what made you choose it?
I was looking for something which stood out, think Schwarzenegger! I have Swedish family and therefore opted with the name Magnus Steinkelsson for my first ever blog, which was with Dortmund. In total honesty, the name at first was simply a mask to try and keep my gaming life away from the rugby lads. You will be pleased to know that I embrace being a bit of an FM addict these days.
Real name?
Matty Lewis
Favourite football team?
Does an egg shaped ball count? Bristol Bears. However, when it comes to football I would have to say my favourite side has to be Brighton and Hove Albion. The club appears to be extremely well run from top to bottom and RDZ has built on the success of Potter, ascending the seagulls to what could well be a season to remember on the continent.
Talk me through your FM journey – where does it start?
Many moons ago, I was introduced to the game via a school friend, who used to have Championship Manager. I think it was 97/98, the game which loaded up via MS-DOS. Anyway, it all began here with Champ Man and then FM becoming an annual purchase to satisfy all my gaming needs.
Ok, you’ve been playing the game, what made you jump from “player” to “creator” and how have you found the journey?
In all honesty, I simply enjoy writing. It provides me with a little escapism from the daily hustle of work and family life ( I have two boys). If you were an early adopter you would have seen my writing style expand to where I am now, which I think is an analytical approach, one which often has surrounded youth development, as I am not a big fan of making wholesale changes to my playing sides.
What’s your style of play? Within the library we have a couple of guys who plough through seasons letting the Assistant Manager’s do the vast majority of stuff, mainly getting into the late 2060’s trying to complete bizarre and random challenges, but we also have guys who are very much into the finite detail and will manage every aspect and would consider a save done after 5 or 6 seasons. Where do you fit within the scale? There is of course, no incorrect answer.
King of the introduction, lol, it wouldn’t be fair to not refence my love for an intro.
When it comes to playing FM I am a bit of a control freak, I am that guy who doesn’t delegate anything out. I attend all press conferences, and even take control of the selection of the reserves to the U18s. I am what you would call a club builder, rather than a player of FM, or at least that’s what I perceive myself to be.
Favourite version/save? Any particular bittersweet/comic/down right depressing memories?
OGC Nice, Rony Lopes!
The save over lockdown really helped to engage with fellow FM’ers in a period in which we all needed that additional interaction. The save saw me dabble in YouTube and also join discord channels for the first time.
Which bloggers do you always make sure that you read?
It would be rude of me not to reference Cleon here, the level of detail of his work is second to none. I am so humbled that he has praised my latest series ‘The Ajax way’ given it was his original work which inspired me to pick up this year’s save
Another honourable mention must go to @CrusaderTsar whose work I always look out for and enjoy.
Who within the community, seriously impresses you – produces the type of content that you just think “Wow, I couldn’t even contemplate producing stuff to at that level?
There are too many good creators out there to mention one specific person. I would simply like to say that the community as a whole is impressive, from the guys out there producing content for their day jobs, through to the people, like myself, writing simply for the love of the game. Who’d have thought that a game could have brought so many people together and provide countless hours of fun over all those years.
What puts you off reading other creators blogs – what makes you click that “X” button in the top right of the page?
I enjoy reading content which peppers in the thoughts behind the manager, I want to understand why people have made the choices they have and the logic behind them. You could probably say I enjoy the psychology of a manager, simple results and league tables just doesn’t cut it for me.
Ok, final question.. I have 5 minutes and I have a list of blogs in front of me – In 100 words, why should I click on your blog…
I’d like to think that as a reader, you will be able to take away something from my writing which would add value to the way you play the game.
I’d like to thank Matty for taking the time to do this for us and urge you all, if you haven’t already, to check his blog and follow him on Twitter.
We’ll have one more of these before Christmas and then we’ll resume again after the new year. If you would like to take part or nominate a blogger to take part then please either leave us a comment on here, reach out to us on Twitter or drop into our Discord server.
